1999/00 Turnbull Trophy

Graham Dunbar reports:

The Graham Turnbull Trophy was played at Harrow School on Sunday 9th November, 1999.

Thirteen pairs, from Lancing, Westminster, Sunningdale, Orley Farm, Harrow, Berkhamsted, Mill Hill, Highgate and St. Olave's, entered this year's tournament and every pair won at least one match. Indeed, every pair lost a match.

Mark Williams again gave an immaculate performance as tournament organiser and handicapper with nearly every match going to 15-13 or closer.

Many congratulations to the St Olave's pair of David Mew and Matt Barter who survived match points in both the semi-final and final to become worthy winners. Tom Dawson again managed to get the very best of his young partner and Sunningdale came very close to retaining the Trophy. In the Plate Final Orley Farm defeated Lancing.

The Final

D Mew & M Barter (St Olave's) beat T Dawson & A Montagu-Pollock (Sunningdale I) 15-14
