Girls Festival 2018

Paul Bowden reports:

01/02/18: It was extremely disappointing that the weather conspired to force us to cancel the first attempt at a girls festival this year. Faye Kerr had managed to enthuse eight schools to bring forty five pairs to what would have been easily the largest such gathering to date.

Calendars being so packed these days there was no chance of rearranging on the same scale. Nevertheless, three schools did bring a total of ten pairs to Eton on 31st January and had great fun and more smiles than I have ever seen at a Fives event before. Each pair played six timed matches against different opponents and the results didn’t matter at all. One Shrewsbury pair shyly admitted when asked that they had indeed won every match they played.

Many thanks to St Olave’s, Charterhouse, Shrewsbury and their staff for coming along and showing such evident enjoyment. We can only hope for better weather next year.
