Jan 2011: Antonia Bruch Memorial Match

Emily Scoones reports:

On October 27th 2009, Antonia Bruch sadly passed away from Meningitis. Antonia had just left Highgate School and started at Oxford University. Not only was she a good friend but a Fives team mate and one of her goals in life, as well as becoming Prime Minister, was to make Fives an Olympic sport.

She loved the game and was so determined to play and improve. On January 5th 2011 we held the Antonia Memorial Match where the Old Chomeleians played the current school girls. Due to the winter bug and term dates the OCs only managed one pair of Jessie Varma and Emily Scoones. The unpractised OCs lost their first two games 12-5 to Hannah Rapley and Aimee Paul, then 12-2 to Eve Smith-Bingham and Aimee Paul but managed to get back into their stride to win their last game 12-7 against Amira Reimer and Eloise Most. We hope that in a few years the OC Ladies team will be a competitive squad which Antonia would have loved to be a part of. Thanks must go to Anthony Brunner for his constant support and organisation of this event.
