2011/12 Barber Cup Quartet into the semis

Three of the four Barber Cup quarter-finals took place at Eton on Sunday. Unfortunately the Old Berkhamstedians were unable to raise a side, giving the Old Millhillians a free passage into the last four where they will take on second seeds Old Salopians, who made it through 3-0 against an Old Ipswichian side who gave a good account of themselves but who were ultimately unable to cope with the greater quality in the Salopian ranks.

The third quarter-final featured the Old Etonians and the Old Citizens; here is the John Reynolds on their encounter: "Old Cits featured several players making their Barber Cup debuts: former Cantab half blue Bobby Friedman, veteran Mark Stockton (who has waited into his fifties to be selected for the club knockout competition) and Mark George Jacobs. Spencer Chapman extended his winning streak in Barber Cup and League One to three in a row but it couldn't save the Cits against the Etonians on their home courts. Despite lacking big guns Will Sorrell and Alex Illingworth, they had too much firepower for the Cits, looking to build on their giant killing exploit of the first round. It wasn't to be and the Etonians go forward to the semis next week."

The final quarter-final pits reigning champions and number one seeds the Old Olavians against the Old Harrovians and will take place next Saturday, with the semi-finals at Eton next Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm.
