2011/12 Turnbull Trophy: Westminster and Berkhamsted into the final

The early rounds of the 2011 Turnbull Trophy took place at Eton last Sunday, with over 30 pairs taking part from a wide range of schools: Westminster, Berkhamsted, St.Olave's, Ipswich, Emanuel, Highgate, RGS High Wycombe, Wrekin, Wolverhampton and Mill Hill.

Nov 2011: London Calling for Cooley and Dunbar in Highgate Clash

Seb Cooley and Tom Dunbar won the 2011 London Tournament at Highgate yesterday, beating Howard Wiseman and Peter Cohen 3-1 in the final after an exciting weekend's Fives.

Dec 2011 REFCA Under 12s: No fretting for Ipswichian George

On Sunday December 4th at Eton, REFCA held its annual U12s individual competition. This competition allows schools to enter as many players as they wish as it is not a pairs event. Players are all given a number and are randomly partnered up and against different opponents/partners in each round. We had 28 players take part from four schools - Emanuel School, Berkhamsted, Ipswich and St Olaves.

2011 Universities Tournament: City and Cambridge Master the Arts of Fives

The 2011 Universities Championships took place at Eton on Saturday, with 32 pairs from 16 different universities taking part. The Ladies tournament was won by Charlotta Cooley and Rosie Scott of City University who defeated Emily Scoones and Hannah Blofield of Bath in the final while the Men's final saw Rory Griffiths and Robert Wilson of Cambridge beat the Yorkshire pair of Chris Hughes (Leeds) and Callum Brock (York).

2011/12 Barber Cup Quartet into the semis

Three of the four Barber Cup quarter-finals took place at Eton on Sunday. Unfortunately the Old Berkhamstedians were unable to raise a side, giving the Old Millhillians a free passage into the last four where they will take on second seeds Old Salopians, who made it through 3-0 against an Old Ipswichian side who gave a good account of themselves but who were ultimately unable to cope with the greater quality in the Salopian ranks.

The third Richard Black Cup - the Ladies team championships - took place at Eton yesterday, with the Olavians emerging triumphant in a thrilling final over defending champions the EFA by the narrowest of margins at the end of a terrific day's Fives featuring six teams, 40 players, old and new faces and countless close and exciting matches.

Nov 2011: Cole Cup lights up Marlborough

Sunday saw the first Eton Fives competition for Marlborough Town Fives club. Sixteen players took part and the main competition was won by Tom Kiggell and Vicky Westwood with Leslie Jenkinson and John Sunders as runners up. The plate went to Peter Westwood and Jonathan Rayner. The Cole Cup will now become a regular feature of the Marlborough Town Fives club. Thanks to everyone that took part.

2011 London Festival: Highgate "A-Team" Bhatta the opposition

24 pairs took part in the London Tournament Festival competition at Highgate yesterday, with Cholmeleian brothers Abhishek and Aroop Bhattacharya claiming the victory champagne after a narrow win over Julian Black and Sam Newby in an enthralling final.

2011 Midlands Tournament: Self & Cooley win in Repton

The Midland Tournament took place at Repton over the weekend with nearly 100 players taking part in a fantastic weekend of Fives, battling it out in the main tournament, the festival, the ladies tournament and a host of plate competitions as well as enjoying dinner at the Stuart Hotel in Derby on Saturday night.
