Oct 2011: Welsh Fives riding high at the Midlands Ladder

We had a very enjoyable ladder event at Shrewsbury on Sunday 9th October with 34 players from Oakham, Rydal Penrhos, Wolverhampton and Wrekin. Everyone played as an individual, moving up a court with a win and down a court following a defeat.

Sep 2011: Jesters tour to Provence

The opposition for this years Jesters Eton Fives tour to Provence was a Citizens (City of London School) side, captained by the redoubtable John Patrick Reynolds, 11 times national champion, and not-quite-so-elder statesman of the game.

Sep 2011: REFCA Ladies Coaching Day

On Sunday 25th September REFCA ran its first ever Ladies Fives coaching day. This idea was well received and had a good attendance of 16 ladies from a variety of different clubs such as Westway, Emanuel, Old Westminsters, The Marlborough club, Old Olavians, Cambridge University, Oxford University, North Oxford and Ipswich School. It was great to see new players Vicky Westwood and Carrie Walk, who came down from Marlborough having recently started to play at a club night at Marlborough College.

Sep 2011: The Westminster Cup is born

John Reynolds reports:

Twenty two players competed on Sunday for the Old Westminsters' club cup, in its first year. Schoolboy Riki Houlden and club competitions secretary Laurie Brock won the solid silver trophy, beating fellow schoolboy Fred Tomlinson and long-time club guest John Reynolds in the final, 12-8.

Aug 2011: EFCT receives John Rimer legacy at Torry Hill

Anne Rimer joined the recent Fives gathering at Torry Hill to enjoy another most memorable day generously hosted by EFA Patron Lord Kingsdown and his family. At lunch Anne presented a cheque to Lord Kingsdown for £10,000 - a legacy from her late husband John Rimer. This magnificent gesture comes at a time when the Eton Fives Charitable Trust can expect to receive further requests for grants.
