Mike Till Appointed EFA Regional Organiser for London

18/09/19: The FiveStar Project, the seven-year development plan of the Eton Fives Association, is all about getting more people playing Eton Fives.

The EFA is actively exploring the building of new courts but this will take time. Meanwhile, we need to open up as many of the existing courts as possible to new players.

The EFA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Till as its second professional Regional Organiser. He will be responsible for the development of Eton Fives in the London area (defined as within the M25), with an initial focus on creating new hubs that can become centres for their local communities.

London has traditionally been the area of the country where most Eton Fives – both competitive and recreational – has been played. It also the area with the highest concentration of courts and the greatest number of lapsed and potential new players.

Mike will aim to improve accessibility and usage of existing courts, working with the owners to find the best way to open them up to the local community. Mike will also work with the existing FiveStar team to identify and recruit new players, creating opportunities for them to play as needed, and collaborating with the Manager/Coach at Westway Sports Centre to engage and develop their participation.

Mike is a former Deputy Head Teacher, and brings deep educational insight to this role, along with a lifelong love of sport. He has played and coached Fives at both Highgate Junior School and Cranleigh Preparatory School.

This follows the appointment fifteen months of Will Thomas as Regional Organiser for the Thames Valley Region, centred on the courts at Newbury. Mike Till’s appointment, the second in the EFA’s FiveStar development programme, further strengthens the Association’s ability to grow the sport, as it seeks to put the running and organising of the game on a more stable and sustainable basis.
