Sept 2009: Fives courts re-opened at RGS High Wycombe

Last season, the two courts at RGS High Wycombe - built nearly 100 years ago as a memorial to the Old Boys of the school who died in the Great War - were unusable: roofless, unevenly floored, slippery and dangerous to play on.

2009 London Tournament

This year the London tournament was held at Eton College with over 40 pairs entered across the weekend. The Main competition started on the Saturday and continued on to the Sunday, with the Festival being a one day event on the Sunday only.

2009/10 Turnbull Trophy

Graham Turnbull Trophy at Eton - 6th December

It was a special day of Fives at Eton College. The U12s event, the Barber Cup clash between Lancing and KES, Eton College House Cup Final and the Turnbull Trophy all dovetailed wonderfully into place across the long afternoon, with the sixteen courts remaining full constantly from noon until almost 6pm.

2010 Northern Tournament

A highly successful Northern Tournament was held at Shrewsbury over the weekend of Feb 6th/7th and was won by James Toop and Matthew Wiseman, who beat the Dunbar brothers in the final 3-2, having lost the first two games, won the third 14-13 and then been given the last two after Peter Dunbar had to withdraw due to cramp.

2009 Universities Tournament - a Cambridge double

As always, Oxford and Cambridge were well represented with Cambridge in particular bringing 13 pairs – a fantastic effort given that the club operates with just one court. They were joined this year by several other universities, with players travelling from far and wide; the Durham pair had had a 5:30am start to get to Eton in time for the group matches and there were also entries from Manchester, Cardiff, UEA, UCL, Imperial, Royal Holloway, Northampton and Bristol.
