National Schools Championships: Day Three: Glory For Ipswich
26/03/25: Day Three of the National School's Championships in association with Advanta Wealth at Shrewsbury saw Ipswich make history with a first ever win in the U16 competition.
Ipswic have had previous wins in boys' competitions at U13 (2024) and U15 (2012) but with both of those competitions excluding the top eght previsou pairs from the previous year's U12 and U14 competitions. never before had they won a boys "opem" title at the National Schools' Championships. Daniel Ingram & Charlie Dinmore changed that yesterday, defeating Henry Etherington & Oscar Rushton of St.Olave's in an epic final which saw them pegged back to 2-2 having taken a 2-0 lead before regrouping and dominating the fifth game to take the title.
Elsewhere on the Shrewsbury courts it was the seniors who got their competition underway, a strong entry of 48 pairs working their way through to the quarter-final stage where the top four seeds (St.Olave's 1, Berkhamsted 1, Eton 1 and Eton 2) all won in straight games. St.Olave's 1 will play Eton 2 and Eton 1 will play Berkhamsted 1 in the semi-finals today, which will also see the start of the U14 competition.
