2006 Veterans Tournament
Graham Pulsford reports:
The twenty-second Over 40s Tournament was held on Sunday 23rd May at Eton College. Thirty two combatants prepared themselves for an enjoyable afternoon of fives; many employing a curious combination of ointments, sprays, comical stretches and surgical supports to get themselves on court.
2006 Aberconway Cup
Mike Fenn reports:
The sixteenth Championship took place at Eton College on a warm Spring day spoilt only by the odd heavy shower during the afternoon semi-finals. We had no mothers entering this year and with many regulars missing the organiser was concerned as to the likely poor entry. He need not have worried as seven new pairs appeared out of the woodwork to join six regulars making the draw of thirteen thus ensuring a fair transition to the final stages more difficult! It was particularly pleasing to see several family members supporting the efforts of their menfolk.
Kinnaird Cup 2006
Following the enormous entry to the Kinnaird in the 2004-2005 season, it was inevitable that there would be good general awareness that it would soon be coming round again. Mark Herring did a great job at alerting everyone as to the precise dates, but chose not to pursue players on the telephone and to pro-actively recruit it as he had done so successfully the previous year.
2006 Mixed Championships
Howard Wiseman reports:
The Mixed Championships took place at Eton on Sunday 23rd April. Twelve pairs appeared, and two large pools of six pairs were played out across the morning.
2006 Ladies Championships
Howard Wiseman reports:
The preliminary rounds were well attended, and it was great to see players making the effort to travel from as far as Norwich, Shrewsbury, Ipswich and Brighton to support the event.
