Olavian U13s continue cross-code success March 2013

Following on from James Toop's fifth successive win in the Rugby Fives National Singles Championships before Christmas and Fiona Barnes and Karen Hird's triumphs in the Ladies Winchester Fives tournament a couple of weeks ago, it was the turn of the St.Olave's Under 13 squad to prove how adept Eton Fives players are at turning their hand to other codes of Fives.

March 2013: Hird and Barnes in cross-code triumph

Eton Fives players Karen Hird and Fiona Barnes took a leaf out of the James Toop handbook earlier in the month, showing that they can switch codes and still be the best by dominating the Ladies Winchester Fives Championships at Malvern. Karen won the singles title and then teamed up with Fiona to take the doubles crown as well, leaving the specialists trailing in their wake.

New courts opened at St.Bart's March 2013

The three new courts at St.Bartholomew's School in Newbury were officially opened in March 2013 by Richard Barber, President of the Eton Fives Association, as part of an official ceremony and reception attended by members of the school, including governors, staff and pupils and guests from the EFA.

March 2013: Old Millhillians win Division 1

The Old Millhillians clinched their first ever Division 1 title last night in fine style with a resounding 3-0 away win over the Old Olavians 2 at Orpington. Ian Hutchinson, Vishal Bhimjiyani, Oli Sander, Sunil Tailor, Will Hughes and Joe Coakley came away with all three points to take their final tally to 22, which takes them beyond the reach of defending champions Berkhamsted.

Staff/Student Fives Resurrected at Shrewsbury Feb 2013

"When Mark Williams was in charge of Fives at Shrewsbury some 20 years ago, the staff would play a Fives match against a house every week across about ten pairs. This seemed such a civilised idea that it deserved to be revived; Wednesday 20th February presented itself as a suitable date and several members of the common room found themselves coaxed, tricked or press ganged into playing. Since for many it was their first time donning the gloves, pairs were mostly set up to be mixed staff / student. The selected students needed no pressing or trickery: they were delighted at the opportunity to take on their teachers, tutors and housemasters. 2013 Kinnaird Cup Semi-Finals: Dunbar vs Dunbar

After the aborted attempt at Shrewsbury at the Northern Tournament, the Fives world will finally get to see the two Dunbar brothers go head to head in the Kinnaird Cup final at Eton on April 7th after they won their respective semi-finals yesterday to set up a mouthwatering first competitive match between the pair.

Kinnaird Cup 2013: Qualifying Rounds

The qualifying rounds of the 2013 Kinnaird Cup took place at Eton over the weekend wth 48 pairs enjoying an excellent weekend of Fives. 32 pairs took part in the main draw on the Saturday, and the field has now been whittled down to the last four, who will contest the semi-finals this coming Sunday - March 10th - at Eton at 2:30pm. The line-up for those matches sees top seeds and defending champions Tom Dunbar and Seb Cooley taking on fifth seeds Dave Mew and Richard Tyler plus a reprise of the Northern Tournament semi of a few weeks ago between former Kinnaird winners Howard Wiseman and James Toop and London Tournament champions Peter Dunbar and George Campbell.
